Knitting Socks -

Here's two socks in progress -

The one on top (which is really a bright royal blue, not navy) is my hubby's Snowflake sock, done toe-up, and finished a little less than halfway up the foot. The bottom one is my Hawaii Socks. It's done toe-up and is just past the heel, and is almost ready for the razor shell pattern. I don't see any problem with the socks, but Hubby does.

The problem? His socks aren't done! (To be fair, this is the 2nd time I've gotten to the heel and had to rip back because it was too small. The 3rd try, finished after the pic was taken is finished to the heel turn, which will hopefully be worked on in the next day or two. I have hopes to finish his sock #1 over the weekend.)

Spinning -

I've been spinning on handspindles for 2, maybe 3 years now. Never tried a wheel. No real reason, just didn't happened. I went to the St Distaff Day at the Westford Museum a few weeks ago. One of the ladies there sat me down at her wheel right after she heard I'd never used a wheel. It took me maybe 10 minutes to get my feet coordinated with the double treadle movements, drafting was the same as on the spindle (no kidding) just a bit faster than I was used to. What I like about spinning is the fiber - the texture and watching it pull from fluff to thread/yarn. For some reason, I didn't think that would be the same on the wheel and the spindle. It definitely went faster - and I got heavier yarn than I usually get spinning. Will I give up my spindles? Nope. Will I get a spinning wheel? Don't know. I do know I want try a few more and think about it some more.

I think both pairs of socks are coming along nicely! Can't wait to see them all completed!

If you enjoy spinning on your spindle and enjoyed spinning on the wheel, by all means try it some more. I have a wheel and love the process of spinning the fiber into yarn. I think if you do it some more it will become addictive.

Also, thanks for the response to my question about socks.
